Training Case Study
Request: A 90 bed, long-term care facility, located in Truro Nova Scotia requested conflict management training for their licensed nursing managers.
Our Support: Thinking Cap conducted a 6-hour focus group speaking to over 50 staff to determine specific needs and organizational gaps that could be addressed through the training program. A thematic analysis of the focus group data was performed and a report summarizing the recommendations were submitted to the long term care home Administrator. Through the findings a four module-training program for licensed nursing managers was developed. The focus of the program was on leadership and management skill development, which were found to be the cause of much of the conflict they were experiencing.
Results: Thinking Cap delivered the four module program over 4 weeks to 16 licensed nursing managers. The feedback from the sessions expressed increased feelings of teamwork, encouragement, conflict-resolution, employee engagement skills, and an overall increase in participants’ positivity and well-being. The Administrator reported a 90% decrease in staff sick calls in the months after the training.
